Window FAQs – Question Index

What is a replacement window?

A true replacement window in Peoria, Bloomington, and LaSalle-Peru is custom built to fit within the opening of an existing window. It’s built to fit precisely, and can be installed without disturbing the interior and exterior areas around the window.

How do I know when to replace my windows?

That’s a great question. Here are the main reasons to consider window replacement in Peoria, LaSalle-Peru, and Bloomington IL:

  • When your windows appear foggy.
  • When your windows are difficult to clean.
  • When your windows have air leaks and drafts.
  • When your windows don’t block outside noise.
  • When your windows are difficult to open and close.
  • When your heating and cooling bills continue to rise.
  • When your windows allow dust and dirt into your home.
  • When your windows cost you time and money in maintenance.
  • When your windows do not provide adequate security for your home.

How do I know what a fair price is for new windows?

Getting estimates and quotes from licensed window experts saves you time and money because you can compare prices, quality and service with reputable companies prior to buying windows in Bloomington IL, Peoria IL, and LaSalle-Peru IL.

What is the advantage choosing a custom replacement window over windows found in home centers?

The windows found in home centers and/or major lumberyards are typically stock sizes with little or no options for homeowners in Peoria, LaSalle-Peru, and Bloomington IL. Replacement windows are custom made for each opening in your home, and you have the ability to choose among many energy saving and aesthetically appealing options. They also offer warranties.

How much household energy do leaky, energy inefficient windows use?

About 25%, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

What is an Energy Star rated window?

The Energy Star insignia on the label means a window has met the U.S. government’s standards for high energy-efficiency.

What are the differences between wood-framed windows and aluminum or vinyl?

Wood framed windows are wonderful as far as insulation, but cost more and need greater maintenance. They can also swell or contract with temperature changes.

Aluminum windows, on the other hand, are relatively affordable, durable and require little maintenance. They do not, however, offer good insulation.

For Peoria, Bloomington, and LaSalle-Peru, vinyl windows are the least expensive window type. They require little maintenance, and have the best warranty available.

Clad style windows are the most expensive. They have a wood frame inside an aluminum or vinyl shell. The wood provides better insulation, while the aluminum or vinyl shell makes for less maintenance.

What is an R-Value?

R-value measures the resistance a material has to heat flow. The higher the R-value is the greater the resistance, and the better the insulating quality. When considering replacement or patio windows in Peoria IL, Bloomington IL, or LaSalle-Peru IL, good R-value is crucial.

What is a U-Value?

U-value measures the amount of heat transferred through a material. The lower the U-value is the slower the rate of heat flow, and the better the insulating value.

Will new windows eliminate condensation?

Actually, no. Condensation is moisture vapor suspended in the air, and that’s something no one can guarantee to eliminate. However, high-quality vinyl windows in Peoria incorporate warm-edge technology glazing systems that will help reduce condensation because they’re much less thermally conductive than other window types. They can help keep the temperature of the window warmer—minimizing the hot and cold differences that turn moisture into condensation.

Note: If you are experiencing condensation please contact us about scheduling a No Cost-No Obligation 14 point home energy assessment so that we can help you determine the cause and proper solution.

Will the replacement windows be installed from the inside or outside?

The majority of our replacement windows for Bloomington IL, Peoria IL, and LaSalle-Peru IL are installed from the inside. In some situations it may be necessary to install from the outside.

How can I prepare my house for my replacement windows?

Please take down curtains, blinds, or any other window treatments. Security sensors should also be removed and turned off by your security company. Please provide our installation expert with a clear path to the window(s) being replaced by moving anything that may be in the way. It is also advisable to remove all wall decorations from the walls close to the windows as they may fall during removal or installation. Ask for assistance, if needed.
